January Update
Earlier this month, I wrote about my goals and theme for this year: Joy
Here’s how it’s going so far:
Blips of joy
- ATL Snow Day
- Good birds
- Lemon-lavender curd for tiny tartlets
Early wins
- Kicked off Technically, Marketing’s first contracted projects for the year!
- Made it out to 13 yoga classes, 8 more than the same month last year
- Successfully completed Dry January, my fifth in a row since 2021
Around town #IRL
- Toured the Atlanta Tech Village Sylvan at its grand opening
- Visited the new Mailchimp HQ for a marketing panel moderated by Lauren Patrick
- Heard from the Director of AI Applications at NVIDIA at the Cherokee Tech Meetup
Loving right now
- Indyx – Measuring cost per wear for my wardrobe
- Freeya – Getting unused goods into better hands and freeing up space at home
- Old Girl’s Club – A supportive, uplifting Slack community with resources for professionals like me
- The What’s Cooking 🍽 feed on Bluesky – Posting food photos here instead of the gram
- The Thrive Guide – A weekly newsletter for Georgia’s home garden lovers
Recent watchlist
- Anora – Ecstatic, awkward Pretty Woman / Cinderella story takes a hard turn into Tarantinoesque violence and wraps with gut wrenching realism that will have you fighting back tears
- Nightbitch – Somehow tamer, cleaner, and more romantic than what I imagine real motherhood to be based on the text messages I have received from mom friends during flu season
- Severance – A little too real right now
Books on my nightstand
- Wild Faith by Talia Lavin
- Reunion, the follow-up to Reboot, by Jerry Colonna
- The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron
Gratitude
This morning I went to a baby shower. My niece and I took turns throwing plastic axes at a target board while the ladies finished opening up gifts: crocheted blankets, floral onesies, monograms and smocking.
When I drove home through the town square, there was a protest rally forming. Hundreds of neighbors with homemade poster board signs. Mexican flags flying proud. Music playing, cars honking, and people cheering.
At home the sunlight looks good. The dog is napping. Alan is playing guitar in the back room.
The only thing I have to worry about tonight is which cocktail to order with dinner, and how to make sure I don’t have too many more when I go out with friends later.
I am grateful for all of these things.
